Welcome!

This independence is my license to do what I love to live for: to write and create uncompromisingly. It's a free rocking world after all and there's so much to discover and unravel in the independent scene where I struggle to live, thrive and survive each day. It's the very essence of living la vida boho-- embracing and celebrating freedom with nothing but this drive and creativity to make things happen. And from my undying romance with the written word to this growing affair with my beadworks, I'm falling hard again as an indiependesigner (I don't know if the term makes sense to anyone but it's just me and this awakened interest to pen down every moment of designing my so-called indie-boho explorations). In short, let me craft a story for you-- could be my own or my valuable indie finds deserving of the world's attention. Enjoy trotting the independent road! And for the record, all expressed here are in my own words-- my thoughts, my views, my say on what I think matters.

For a bohemian belief to still be relevant

How can you hold on to something you believe in if it takes away your very right to believe? As long as you never lose yourself, you never have to lose anything else that is still relevant to make this world believable. Like living a boho life at this age of pretense when everyone seems to work immensely for certainty, finality, perfection in their lives to satisfy a system. Well, life is full of mysteries, surprises, adventures, thrills and lessons to make one still hope for change. And for you to still be relevant no matter what your style of thinking is?

"Don't compromise yourself. You are all you've got." - Janis Joplin

To live, write and create uncompromisingly--- that's the only thing relevant for The Boho Tripper that I am. Check me out on http://thebohotripper.tumblr.com/ and let's rock it harder in 2014!

Reflections

Here are my spoken snapshots, subjects that hold stories weaved from probably thinking too much about what to do, where to go, who to be with.

The excitement of a child when on travels simply reflects mine. And I need not go far today.

                                                       ***
To do your thing without overthinking. I have given much thought on this lately. Like for any other artist, musician, non-conformist --- there's really nothing to prove; just do what feels good from within and you can make the world believe.

                                                           ***
I shot it beautifully and maybe I shot it dead by picking it out of the water. Too late when I found out that a starfish can only survive 10 seconds to a few hours out of the water. One of those things I'm sorry for and I blame such ignorance about the fact that a starfish should be left alone underwater. This made me realize how insensitive, even heartless, we can be to other living forms even with the right information. We are too obsessed with taking interesting photographs to share, not knowing that we are actually causing harm to these precious living forms as helpless subjects. A huge wake up call for me, a note to nature trippers everywhere: DO NOT TAKE A STARFISH OUT OF THE WATER OR IT MAY DIE IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. Now that we know better, striking a pose while holding a dead starfish is not very appealing as it appears to be.

                                                            ***
It lights me up when alone in my funny dark world. Happy with the right amount of glow to make me see fairies in my sleep. I would dream about this lamp giving me such wisdom, time and fantasy--- and there's a genie. It's like WTF? It's just a lamp but it inspires art in me--- something that gives meaning and color to this life. Sometimes in our waking hours, we are lured to something seemingly real eventhough we know that it is just an idea, a flicker of the imagination that will soon fade. And we just can't allow it to die too soon or maybe for the rest of our days because it makes us see the true light in this world imperfected by tragedies called norms.

"Another day, another dollar, another war,
Another tower went up, where the homeless had their homes
So we pray to as many different Gods as there are flowers
But we call religion our friend
We're so worried about saving our souls
Afraid that God will take His toll
That we forget to begin..."

Oh my July: Eat, play, live

A favorite beadwork of mine against Amorsolo's prized work of art.
Rain inspires bliss, not blues, at least for me these days. Everything still rocks at this point of being caught between rushing and slowing down. Oh my July-- this is my season  of letting the good times roll even without the loud music and all the great stuff that Janis and Jim used to worship. I'm breaking some rules but not in the same way they were doing it in the '60s. Today, I'm setting some kind of direction, a somewhat straight path to keep me going...to keep my balance. And for that I may be breaking my own rules of living la vida boho. Actually, I'm living more of that bohemian life each day and maybe with some sense and focus. Oh well, life is short but sweet for certain so let's just eat, play and live for all we care.

Oh  My July Wishlist

WishDish: Eating is living

What's not to love about food-- sampled for the first time, enriched with history or simply shared with a buddy or a hungry bunch of like-minded people? We all love to eat, and yes, take pictures of the dishes before and after consuming them. I'm guilty of that... and that of taking snapshots of "stories" (conversations, interiors, trivial things that surround them). All these make the entire gastronomic experience more than the usual food trip; it becomes an art-filled journey each time we dine.

Spinach-stuffed crispy thin pie in my own words (and it's called something like Spinaci eh?). Discovered at Amici, Don Bosco Greenhills. I love spinach pizzas oozing with mozzarella chewiness and a dash of parmesan sprinkles.

Mister Donut's hot choco is simply comforting on a rainy night. (Greenhills)

Craving for persian food on my birthday eve and the perfect stop was Prince of Persia in Eastwood
Chicken & beef kabab with grilled tomatoes and pita wheat bread
Ox brain with lemon dip and fresh tomatoes
Soup for the soul: Sukiyaki with tofu, thinly sliced beef, vegetables and raw egg. A tasty and heart-warming rainy treat at Asian Bites (Robinsons Galleria, Ortigas)
Garlic creamy soup (The Manor Camp John Hay, Baguio City). Garlicky and creamy, yes with a lovely kick of herbs.

Ubelicious Turon! Indeed, a triple treat of generous ube, banana and langka (Lutong Bahay, Baguio City)

Pinakbet with bagnet bits. Not a bit disappointing. (Baguio City)

Chicken Kalbi in lettuce wrap and triple-dip Korean sauces (peanut sauce, sesame oil and chili sauce). A cool way to enjoy Korean dishes! (Kogi Bulgogi in Eastwood)

Quattro Formaggi (four Italian cheeses). Cheeses that made me speechless! Perfect Italian indulgence-- food, wine and lots of ambiance. (Galileo Enoteca Deli , Eastwood)

(A work in progress as I attempt to chronicle all things worth sharing about my wanderings in and out of my comfort zone: food, travels, causes, learnings, people and more...Time for a rainy night out! To be continued...)

(em)bracing myself

I fight through time, conformity and routine. These are my challenges.

Now that I already chose to find my way out of my little "indie boho maze" to find my way around in this dynamic world of the Big Blue, I know that I have to fully embrace them to serve me well in this yet another unfamiliar road.

Embracing the challenge can be a good start to get things working for the world.
